A lot of people use online auction sites to sell a product, but if you do it right, you can also use these auctions as part of your website promotion plans with great success. Here are some ways that you can accomplish this.
Auction product:
Obviously, you will want to try auctioning off your product to get traffic. You may only want to put limited product up for auction, depending on what kind of profit margins and product that you are selling. To entice people, you may want to try selling the product for less than usual, but directing those that don't win the auction, or don't want to wait to visit your site and purchase there. If your regular website is able to, you could offer a discount through the auction only for website promotion. You may only be able to put your website into your about page, but if people want to find you, they will do through that or by messaging you on the site.
Test the Market:
Using an online auction site is a great way to do some market testing as well as working on your website promotion. By listing your product and watching the bidding, you can find out if it is something that people are looking for and want to buy. This method also helps you figure out pricing, as you can see at what level people quit bidding, or what they are willing to spend, to see where you would be able to price the product at. Keep in mind; there are some people that will pay more than the product is worth, so not all the bids may be good research.
Competition:
Online auction sites are great for research. Do you know your competition? You may find them on the auction sites, and you can see how they are doing. Maybe you want to keep track of what types of products they are selling, and the prices they are getting, checking out their information on the auctions sites are a great way to do this. You could check out what type of terminology they are using if you are having issues coming up with the keywords to use in your website promotion. It might even be worthwhile to order from them and see how well they do the various tasks associated with selling products.
When using online auctions as a method of website promotion, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Most people do not want to lose money when they sell a product, so make sure you pay attention to any fees associated with the website you are selling through. There are many sites on the Internet, and just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean that many others aren't already using it with great success.
